Beckhoff CX2042 | Embedded PC with Intel® Xeon® D-1527

The CX2042 has an Intel® Xeon® CPU with a clock rate of 2.2 GHz

(four cores). A fan with ball bearings and speed monitoring is integrated

into the basic CPU module. In addition to the CPU, the basic module

also contains the main memory with a size of 8 GB RAM, optionally

available with up to 64 GB. The controller boots from a CFast flash

memory card where both the operating system as well as user programs

and data are stored.

The CPU has an internal 128 kB NOVRAM, which acts as a persistent

data memory if no UPS is used.

The use of TwinCAT 3 allows automation tasks to be distributed across

the various cores of the Intel® Xeon® CPU.

All system modules from the CX2000 series for left- or right-sided

functional extensions can be connected. Internally the modules are

connected via PCI Express® and can be plugged to the CPU in the field.

The power supply for the CPU module comes from a CX2100-0014 power

supply module. Up to two mass storage modules (either CX2550-0010

CFast modules or CX2550-0020 2½-inch SSD modules) can be plugged

in between the power supply unit and the CPU, allowing the use of up

to three mass storage devices in total.

The electrically isolated CX2100-0914 power supply unit extends the existing

power supply module portfolio for Embedded PCs by a fanless UPS-OCT-capable

version offering a maximum power output of 100 W. It is intended for supplying

power to the components of a CX20xx system (CPU modules, system and

extension modules) and is suitable for all existing basic CPU modules from the

CX20xx series, as long as the maximum power output is not exceeded.

EtherCAT or Bus Terminals can be connected on the right-hand side – the

respective bus system is detected automatically and operated by the CPU.

Power is supplied to the E-bus or K-bus electronics in the I/O terminals by an

integrated, but internally separate power supply unit with 2 A at 5 V DC.

Continuing support for TwinCAT 2 by the CX2033 and CX2043 guarantees

investment protection for projects and systems that were or will be created

with this 32-bit generation.

The devices from the CX20x3 series are characterized by outstanding real-time

characteristics under the highest computing loads.

This enables deterministic processing with short cycle times on the individual

cores of the CPUs.

The basic equipment of the hardware includes two independent Gbit-Ethernet

interfaces, four USB 3.2 Gen. 2 ports, one DVI-D interface, and a multi-option

interface that can be equipped ex factory with a flexible choice of further

interfaces (e.g., serial port, fieldbus, or second video connection).

The internal RAM size is 8 GB; up to 16 GB are also optionally possible. 

The controller boots from the CFast card and has an internal 128 kB NOVRAM

for use as a persistent data memory.
