Stepper Controller Electrical Specifications
The S2K Stepper Controller (IC800STI105xx) is suitable for use on a circuit capable of
delivering not more than 5,000 rms symmetrical amperes and 130 volts maximum when
protected by RK5 class 15A fuses. Table 2-2 summarizes the Stepper Controllers
maximum continuous input power requirements. The actual input power and current is a
function of the motor's operating point and the duty cycle.
INDUCTIVE LOAD DRIVER — Bifilar (unipolar) stepper motors can be driven directly.
The internal kickback diodes prevent damage to the output transistors by suppressing the high-voltage spikes which occur when
turning OFF an inductive load.
FAULT CONDITIONS — In the event of a shortedload, shorted winding, or stalled motor, the load current will attempt to increase.
As described above, the drive current to the output stage is diverted (limiting the load current to about1 A), causing the output stage to go linear. As the junction
temperature of the output stage increases, the thermal limit circuit will become operational, further decreasing the drivecurrent.
The load current (junction temperature) is then a function of ambient temperature, state of remaining drivers,supply voltage, and load resistance.
If the fault condition is corrected, the output driver will return to its normal saturated condition.
Short circuit protection is provided for each output for supply voltages up to 25 V.
Any program can start and stop any other program, and all programs can utilize common motion blocks.
Engineering time is reduced and integration is simplified due to configuration and programming wizards for the controller software.
The controller has a simple diagnostic system that is displayed on a 2-character LED on the front panel.
All LED status display codes are listed in the Motion Solutions manual.
Multiple faults are displayed on a round robin basis. The S2K Series can control a wide torque range within a single model.
The controller has a reduced package size and extensive processing power for demanding applications.
There are 2 analog inputs and one analog output on the controller, and it comes complete with one network connection.

IC800STI105D2-CE is a VersaMotion S2K controller that is manufactured by GE Fanuc Automation.
This controller is a 4.3 ampere and 115/230 VAC device with resolver feedback and DeviceNet programming.
This unit has discrete inputs and outputs, position feedback, an emergency stop circuit,
a brushless servo motor, a VAC input, a serial port, auxiliary I/O, and DIP switch positions.
String variables simplify interface with third-party man-machine interfaces.
IC800STI105D2-CE supports immediate mode operation where an external host can load registers or
issue commands (over the serial or Network ports) that are executed in real time.
This controller has a real-time operating system and comprehensive programming language that supports up to four programs,
one motion task, and one communication task simultaneously executed.
