Additional Ethernet Interfaces for the Series 90-30 PLC

In addition to the embedded Ethernet interface in the CPU374 PLUS, up to three Series 90-30

Ethernet Modules (IC693CMM321) can be installed in the Series 90-30 PLC backplane. 

If the PLC system includes any IC693CMM321 modules, please refer to the installation  instructions, 

configuration, and communication details in the TCP/IP Ethernet  Communications for Series 90 PLCs User’s Manual, 

GFK-1541, and the TCP/IP Ethernet  Communications for Series 90 PLCs Station Manager Manual, GFK-1186.

The Series 90-30, 90-20, and Micro PLCs are members of the GE Fanuc Series 90 family of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). 

They are easy to install and configure, offer advanced programming features, and are compatible with the Series 90-70 PLCs.

The 341 and lower Series 90-30 PLCs and Series 90-20 PLC use an 80188 microprocessor.

The 35x and 36x series of 90-30 PLCs use an 80386EX microprocessor. 

The 37x series of 90-30 PLCs use a 586 microprocessor. 

The Series 90 Micro PLC uses the H8 microprocessor. 

Both program execution and basic housekeeping tasks such as diagnostic routines, input/output scanners, and alarm processing are supported. 

The system firmware also contains routines to communicate with the programmer. 

These routines provide for the upload and download of application programs, return of status information, and control of the PLC.

In the Series 90-30 PLC, the application (user logic) program that controls the end process to 

which the PLC is applied is controlled by a dedicated Instruction Sequencer Coprocessor (ISCP). 

The ISCP is implemented in hardware in the Model 313 and higher and in software in the Model 311systems, and the Micro PLC. 

The microprocessor and the hardware-based ISCP can execute simultaneously, 

allowing the microprocessor to service communications while the ISCP is executing the bulk of the application program; 

however, the microprocessor must execute the nonBoolean function blocks.

▪ Protocol is stored in flash memory in the Ethernet interface and is easily upgraded through the CPU serial port 

▪ Communications with remote PLCs and other nodes reachable through routers. The gateway IP address must be configured 

▪ Internet access via web pages served up to standard web browsers* 

* enhanced Ethernet feature not available prior to CPU374 PLUS (Release 12.00)

Overview

The built-in enhanced Ethernet interface of the Series 90-30 CPU374 PLUS provides TCP/IP  communications with: 

▪ Series 90, PACSystems, and VersaMax PLCs

▪ host computers running the Host Communications Toolkit or CIMPLICITY software

▪ computers running the TCP/IP version of the programming software.

These communications use the GE Fanuc SRTP and Ethernet Global Data (EGD) protocols

over a four-layer TCP/IP (Internet) stack.  The Ethernet interface has SRTP server capability.

As a server, the Ethernet Interface  responds to requests from devices such as PLC programming software, 

a Host computer  running an SRTP application, or another PLC acting as a client.

Introduction

Regardless of the I/O mix you choose, RX3i is built on high speed interfaces to provide rapid and consistent data transfer.

Two LEDs on the Mini Converter indicate activity on the transmit and receive lines.

The Converter Plug is required to convert the 9-pin serial port connector on the Mini Converter to

the 25-pin serial port connector on an IC647 computer, an IBM® PC-XT, or a PS/2® Personal Computer.

The IC640 industrial computer requires an additional adapter (not supplied – please contact your local PLC distributor) for use with the Mini Converter.

Tables 1 and 2 list the Mini Converter pinouts. The direction of signal flow is with respect to the Mini Converter.
