The Mark * VIeS Functional Safety System reflects GE’ s experience of three-plus decades,
four generations, and over 10,000 installed Triple Modular Redundant(TMR) systems.
The Mark VIeS is certified to IEC 61508 standards to meet the needs of the majority of safety requirements – SIL 2 and SIL 3.
Contact Input ModuleThe Mark* VIeS Functional Safety Contact Input module provides an interface between
discrete contact process sensors (24 discrete inputs) and Mark VIeS Safety control logic.
The Contact Input module consists of two orderable parts: the contact input I/Opack and the contact input terminal board.
All safety contact input modules use the same I/Opack, IS420YDIAS1B.
Multiple DIN-rail mounted terminal boards are available to provide the necessary contact voltages, redundancy, and terminal block styles.
The Contact Input module is available in both Simplex and Triple Modular Redundant
(TMR) configurations. Users can select the configuration that best addresses their needs for availability and SIL level.
This document discusses the Simplex Contact Input (STCI) terminal board and the Contact Input (TBCI) terminal board.
The TBCI terminal board offers TMR capability but it can also be used in a Simplex configuration with a single YDIA I/Opack.
In a TMR I/Oconfiguration, the controller performs 2-out-of-3 voting on the discrete inputs.
In a Dual I/Oconfiguration, the controllers listen to the first reporting YDIA I/Opack (no voting).
The Ethernet backbone of the Mark VIeS Functional Safety System allows each segment of the system to be configured with different levels of redundancy as follows:
• Can be: Simplex, Dual, or TMR
• I/Onetwork (IONet) communications can be: Simplex, Dual, or TMR
• I/O modules can be: Simplex or TMR This flexibility enables customers to design
their system to meet the exact needs of their SIL application requirements, and ultimately reducing system costs.
Customers can customize the level of redundancy to meet safety and running reliability needs.

systems installed in power generation and infrastructure applications globally. These
proven philosophies are atthe heart of the Mark VIeS Functional Safety System.
Flexibility and reliability Redundancy is a critical feature in safety control system design,
enabling continuous process operation during system maintenance or repair.
Functional Description
The Analog I/O pack (PAIC) is an electrical interface that connects one or two I/O Ethernet networks to an analog input terminal board.
The PAIC includes a BPPx processor board as well as an acquisition board dedicated to the analog I/O function.
The module has ten analog inputs. The first eight inputs can be set to 5 V or 10 V or 4-20 mA current loop inputs.
The final two inputs can be set to 1 mA or 4-20 mA current inputs.
The load terminal resistors for current loop inputs are located on the terminal board, and the PAIC senses voltage across these resistors.
PAICH2 has two current loop outputs ranging from 0 to 20 mA.
It also includes additional hardware that allows for 0-200 mA current on the first output only.
The I/O pack receives and sends data to the controller via dual RJ-45 Ethernet connectors and is powered by a three-pin connector.
Field devices are communicated with via a DC-37 pin connector that connects directly to the associated terminal board.
LED indicator lights provide visual diagnostics.
Hardware Tips and Specifications
This pack has an internally placed BPPx processor board as well as an acquisition board that is used for thermocouple input functions.
Before even considering any ultimate purchase decision on this IS220PTCCH1A device,

This board can support E, J, K, S, and T standard thermocouples as well as mV inputs with a span of -8 to 45 mV. E, J, K, S, and T thermocouples
can be either grounded or ungrounded and can be located up to 984 feet from the turbine I/O panel. Cable resistance must be kept to a maximum 450 Ω.
