Triple Modular Redundancy Features Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) represents a specific instance of N-modular redundancy, where N is equal to 3. This system relies on redundant modules equipped with both input and output voting mechanisms.

The input signal voting mechanism operates through Software Implemented Fault Tolerance (SIFT) in software. Meanwhile, output voting is executed by dedicated hardware circuits integrated into the output terminal boards. The voting processes for both inputs and outputs contribute significantly to robust fault masking capabilities. When three signals undergo voting, the failure of any one signal is concealed by the remaining two functional signals. This occurs because the voting process selects the median of the three analog inputs or the two agreeing signals in the case of discrete inputs. The fault masking in a TMR system is so effective that specialized fault detection functionalities are embedded within the voting software. Prior to voting, all input values are cross-compared to identify significant differences, triggering a diagnostic alarm if detected.

Beyond fault masking, the TMR system incorporates various features to prevent fault propagation and ensure fault isolation. A distributed architecture with direct current (dc) isolation enhances hardware isolation. Furthermore, the utilization of dual-port memories imposes restrictions on memory access, preventing inadvertent data destruction by adjacent processors. 

Additionally, isolated power sources are implemented to avert a domino effect in case a faulty module overloads its power supply. These multifaceted features collectively contribute to enhancing the reliability and fault tolerance of the TMR system, bolstering its resilience against potential faults and failures.BOARD, AEPG MODULE
