IEC 61850
System 800xA fully supports the IEC 61850 standard for Electrical Control Systems.
With its standardized model of the IED and its data and communication services,
IEC 61850 ensures interoperability between electrical devices from different vendors and
is able to replace all the typical protocols found in the substation automation domain.
Based on Ethernet technology and providing a flexible and open system architecture,
IEC 61850 makes the application future-proof over entire system lifecycles.
IEC 61850 complements System 800xA’s capability of using open standards to integrate fieldbus devices within process automation.
For process electrification devices such as low voltage switchgear, variable speed drives and motor controllers,
System 800xA supports open fieldbus standards such as Profibus and Profinet. For process instrumentation,
System 800xA has extensive integration with HART, Profibus and Foundation Fieldbus.
Adopting IEC 61850 technology together with System 800xA also permits standardization of
various procedures in substation configuration, control logic, control libraries and operation procedures.
The object orientation of IEC 61850 enables standardized device models,
supported by System 800xA through its IEC 61850 compatibility.
This includes:
Motor starter and feeder modules (all sizes), which are equipped with measuring and
communication electronic device MControl
Motor starter and feeder modules (all sizes), which are equipped with intelligent device,
UMC and M10x, communicates to MLink.
Circuit breakers connected to the switchgear communication with the interface MConnect
Circuit breakers connected to the switchgear communication with the interface MLink
Excluded from supervision in MService are all modules not connected to the internal switchgear
communication such as MSpeed (Variable Speed drives in MNS iS) and conventional modules.
REF611 is a dedicated feeder protection relay designed for the protection, control,
measurement and supervision of utility substations and industrial power systems.
The feeder protection relay REF611 can be supplied either with directional or non-directional overcurrent and earth-fault protection.
Directional earth-fault protection is mainly used in isolated neutral or compensated networks,
whereas the non-directional earth fault protection is intended for directly or low-impedance earthed neutral networks.
REF611 is a member of ABB’s Relion® product family and part of its 611 protection and control series of relays.
Supported Functions
MService Condition Monitoring covers the following main functions:
Collection of operational data of the supervised modules
Collection of all alarms and trips generated in the supervised modules
Collection of maintenance warnings derived from additional assessment logic related to the supervised modules.
Display of the MNS or MNS iS system structure highlighting modules signaling problems
Display of historical data in trend displays
Detailed information on the identification, location, and type of supervised modules
Online supervision of temperature or power loss related problems within individual cubicles.
MService can supervise all modules in MNS and MNS iS, which are connected to the internal
switchgear communication bus.
Fieldbus
MLink can include Fieldbus communication to DCS. The type of Fieldbus must be selected
before ordering the MLink type. The Fieldbus specific information (PROFIBUS, MODBUS etc.)
