Real-Time Clock RTU560 Standard Time Synchronization with Longwave Transmitter DCF7
Applications
RTU560 product line units can be synchronized with the standard time of the longwave transmitter DCF77 using the module 560RTC02.
The RTU560 reads the time and date from the module 560RTC02 and synchronizes its internal clock with standard time via minute pulses.
The RTU560 synchronizes its internal clock with standard time by means of minute pulses. The use of the module 560RTC02 ensures that the indications of several end devices are synchronized when they contain time information.
Features
The longwave DCF 77 transmitter can be reliably received within a distance of approx. 1500 kilometers from Frankfurt/Main in West Germany, as well as in many parts of Europe.
If the reception level is sufficient, the module 560RTC02 will synchronize with standard time and receive the date and time within three minutes.
The communication unit (CMU) is synchronized with DCF 77 via the MIN1 pulse front. the CMU reads the time and date via the RTU system bus.
In the event of radio interference or DCF 77 interruption, the clock on the 560RTC02 will continue to use a high precision quartz clock. The internal condenser allows the
560RTC02 to continue to control the clock (approximately 150 hours), even when the station is turned off. Upon power-up, the RTU560 will have valid time immediately.
If the DCF 77 signal fails for more than 2.5 hours or the 560RTC02 is not synchronized, the alarm relay contacts close.
In addition to the minute pulse output for RTU560 synchronization, there is also a minute pulse output which is connected to the module via an optocoupler (MIN2).
The time, date and status can be read out every minute via the serial data output interface RS232.
Four light-emitting diodes on the front panel of the 560RTC02 real-time clock are used to indicate the following operating states:
- ST: Brief board alarm
- FR: Free-running 560RTC02 not synchronized with DCF 77
- CD: Carrier Detect Carrier Detect
Receiver signal strength level; optimal positioning of the antenna for maximum reception
- MN: Pulse per minute blinking
