Description.

The MVME712M is an I/O transition module for Motorola MPU VME Modules, VME Processor Modules, Embedded Controllers, and Single Board Computer (SBC) series processor modules.

The MVME712M is used as an interface between the processor module and its peripherals. The purpose of this module is to provide rear-panel The purpose of this module is to provide rear-panel industry-standard connectors to simplify the customer's external cable requirements.

P2 adapter boards and cables are provided for interconnecting the MVME712M to peripheral devices. interconnecting the MVME712M to the MVMExxxx. the P2 adapter assembly transfers I/O signals and ground from the P2 connector on the chassis backplane to the MVME712M, and from the P2 adapter assembly to the MVME712M. at the VME Module MPU connection. P2 adapter board

The MVME712M requires the use of the P2 Adapter Board.

Connectors that allow SCSI cables to be connected to other SCSI devices and/or to the MVME712M via flat ribbon cables

SCSI termination resistors mounted in sockets for end-of-cable or middle-of-cable configurations

Develop termination power on P2 adapter from +5 Vdc on connector P2 and fuse (1 A) on P2 adapter.

Connect the EIA-232-D port, printer port, SCSI and Ethernet signals to the connectors on the MVME712M

Cooling Requirements

Motorola VME modules are specified, designed, and tested to operate reliably with forced-air cooling over the incoming air temperature range of 0 degrees Celsius to 55 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit to 131 degrees Fahrenheit).

Temperature qualification was performed in a standard Motorola VMEsystem 1000 enclosure. 25-watt load boards were inserted in two card slots, one on each side, adjacent to the board under test to simulate a high power density system configuration. Three axial fans, each rated at 71 CFM, were mounted directly below the MVME card box. the temperature of the incoming airflow was measured between the fan assembly and the card box, with the airflow encountering the module under test first.

The test software executes as the module is affected by changes in ambient temperature. Case temperatures of critical high power density integrated circuits are monitored to ensure that component vendor specifications are not exceeded.

While the exact amount of airflow required for cooling depends on the ambient air temperature as well as the type, number, and location of boards and other heat sources, typically as little as 5 CFM of airflow across the module is sufficient. In environments with lower maximum ambient temperatures, less airflow is required to cool the module.

Under more favorable thermal conditions, increased airflow will allow the module to operate reliably in environments above 55 degrees Celsius. It is important to note that in addition to the rated CFM of the air pusher, there are several factors that determine the actual amount of air flowing through the module.
