Honeywell recently released the latest version of its Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS), Experion PKS 520.1 (hereafter referred to as R520.1).
The new version of the solution provides end users with new process automation capabilities and lays the foundation for Honeywell's next-generation control technology, Experion PKS Highly Integrated Virtual Environment (HIVE).
Experion PKS HIVE enables automation projects to be deployed more flexibly by decoupling elements of the control system that have traditionally been designed, configured and deployed.
By decoupling the design, configuration and deployment of control system elements in the traditional way, Experion PKS HIVE enables greater flexibility in the deployment of automation projects, facilitating standardisation and optimisation while simplifying lifecycle and support management.
The R520.1 release features a flexible, modular design that enables Experion PKS HIVE to scale to accommodate automation projects of all sizes.
This reduces the impact in terms of time and cost associated with late changes in project design, delivery and implementation.
‘The R520.1 solution leverages the customer's existing investment, is seamlessly compatible with the current installed base, and can be implemented incrementally.
‘This brings better system flexibility and availability while reducing the overall cost of the automation project,’ said Jason Urso, chief technology officer, Honeywell Process Control.’
In addition, R520.1 introduces several Experion Batch features, including the ability to record batch history directly on the Experion server, the
and a new reporting tool that allows process engineers to easily create and manage reports. The solution also features electronic work instructions that
that help users digitise processes, reducing operator human input errors and improving data integrity, and enter them into electronic batch records.
R520.1 also introduces the latest version of the C300 controller after several upgrades.
Unit Operator Controller (UOC) enhancements include simplified processes for creating complex control strategies using custom algorithm blocks that run directly on the UOC, the
and direct connection to devices via OPC UA directly on the UOC.
In addition, the system improves the user experience in a number of ways, increasing operator responsiveness and simplifying workflow.
The R520.1 can be used by a wide range of end-users in the oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, power generation, life sciences, pulp and paper, mining and metals, speciality chemicals and renewable energy sectors.
