Product Description

The ARG600 Wireless Gateway allows wireless monitoring and control of field devices from a central site or control centre over a cellular network.

The device provides industrial quality connectivity based on TCP/IP and serial port protocols.

The ARG600 Wireless Gateway has integrated communication capabilities for seamless integration with SCADA systems.

The Wireless Gateway ARG600 is a member of the ABB Arctic product family and part of the 600 Wireless Gateway product family.

With the Wireless Gateway ARG600. it is possible to connect legacy IEC 60870-101 devices to modern TCP/IP-based IEC 60870-5-104 control systems. This is made possible by the

protocol conversion to IEC 60870-104. The ARG600 also supports protocol conversion from Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP.

DNP3 serial devices can be connected to DNP3 TCP SCADA systems. In this case, the DNP3 protocol is transmitted via TCP/IP communication (transparent serial gateway mode).

The ARG600 wireless gateway can be used in a variety of industrial and utility applications to maximise benefits.

- Industrial-grade TCP/IP router: Multiple serial and TCP/IP-based field devices can be integrated into a centralised supervisory and control system (SCADA).

- Integrated protocol conversion to connect legacy serial devices to a TCP/IP-based supervisory control system (SCADA).

- Remote access to field devices means fewer site visits for operation and maintenance

- Optimises communication costs by using public cellular networks

- Existing legacy private radio systems can be upgraded to solutions based on higher bandwidth cellular networks.

This maximises the use of existing applications. For example, traffic video surveillance can now be integrated into the same system.

2. Complete communication systems

The wireless gateway ARG600 is usually part of a complete communication system consisting of an Arctic 600 series gateway and a central M2M gateway, the ARM600 Communication Server.

The M2M gateway is an important part of the overall communications solution and has the functionality required to build a reliable end-to-end communications system.

- Static IP address for Arctic 600 Series devices - enables the use of carrier-independent standard SIM cards

- VPN Concentrator - secure communications between a central location and remote sites

- Arctic Patrol - centralised device management application for monitoring Arctic 600 Series devices

- Firewall - network security system to control incoming and outgoing network traffic

Applications

The ARG600 wireless gateway can be used in feeder automation and substation applications to automate distribution networks in co-operation with other ABB network automation devices.

In addition, the device can be used for various monitoring and control applications in secondary substations.

The ARG600 can be used in a variety of industrial applications.

- Supports weather monitoring stations, real-time video streaming, building automation and intelligent traffic management systems

- Connects IEC-101. DNP or Modbus RTU-based instruments and fault channel indicators to higher-level systems
