With TwinCAT Runtime for Linux®, Pepperl+Fuchs opens up new application possibilities for real-time control.
In the future, several independent TwinCAT Runtime can be executed on the same industrial PC.
Users will be able to combine different system components on a single high-performance computer, thus simplifying programming and diagnostics.
It also provides access to the GPU (graphics card) in the real-time environment, hardware gas pedals for high-computing applications such as machine vision, and much more.
The new TwinCAT Runtime is based on Pepperl+Fuchs' Linux® distribution.
TwinCAT Runtime for Linux® is based on Pepperl+Fuchs' own Linux® distribution and offers a wide choice of operating systems in addition to Windows and TwinCAT/BSD.
The distribution is based on the open-source Debian operating system and includes as standard a Linux® real-time kernel for the real-time execution of TwinCAT Runtime.
Additional software can be easily installed via the Debian package management system.
All features combine to provide TwinCAT Runtime for stable real-time control on the Linux® platform.
Using container technologies such as Docker®, Podman and LXC, multiple TwinCAT Runtimes can be executed on a single industrial PC.
This enables the modularization of machine control and other control applications.
Individual execution of multiple TwinCAT runtimes on a single Industrial PC facilitates hardware consolidation, which increases the utilization of available computing resources and provides corresponding cost advantages.
Linux® users can take advantage of the increased possibilities offered by automation technology while maintaining the familiar application programming environment of TwinCAT.
