Volvo Construction Equipment EC500 and EC500 Crusher Edition crawler excavators

Volvo Construction Equipment has launched the EC500 and EC500 Crusher versions of its crawler excavators in the Chinese market to help customers increase productivity and efficiency.

These two crawler excavators feature an electronically controlled hydraulic system, ECO energy-saving mode, automatic engine idle and automatic engine shutdown, which can bring users higher fuel efficiency (the EC500 is about 5 per cent more fuel efficient). The new generation of intelligent electronically controlled hydraulic systems provides flow on demand and reduces internal losses in the hydraulic circuit. The equipment is powered by a mature Volvo engine that delivers strong torque even at low rpm. the EC500 crawler excavator comes as standard with full track guards, 600mm double-tooth track plates, side impact protection, heavy-duty upper frame underframe guards, and reinforced excavation equipment that provides stable performance even under tough operating conditions.

The EC500 Track Excavator Crusher Hammer version is ideal for crushing operations due to its high productivity, ruggedness, fuel efficiency and excellent performance. The X1 auxiliary line that comes with the unit has a combined dual pump flow and additional cooling capacity to drive the hydraulic breaker hammer efficiently and consistently. Additional protection for the unit includes reinforcements, pins and bushings, rubber clamps for the X1 and hydraulic lines, an X1 oil return filter and a large diameter oil return line for rock-solid rock-breaking work.

The EC500 Crawler Excavator Hammer Edition is available with a wide range of hammer sizes and 200mm diameter hammer rods, and is equipped with an Attachment Management System, which allows the operator to easily preset the hydraulic flow rate, maximum pressure, uni-directional or bi-directional flow rate, propulsion, switching and/or proportional control via the cab monitor. The accessory management system is password protected and can store up to 20 different hydraulic accessory settings for ease of operation.

People-centred safety

The EC500 and EC500 Crusher crawler excavators offer the same comfort and safety as Volvo Construction Equipment products, with a cab that combines low noise, low vibration and a wide field of vision with creature comforts such as an air-suspension seat and optimised controls to give the operator an excellent human-machine interaction experience and achieve higher productivity.

Volvo Construction Equipment EC500 crawler excavator gives operators better visibility

On the digital front, the EC500 and EC500 Crusher Edition crawler excavators are equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports and Dig Assist, which not only provide operators with convenience, but also enable them to fully utilise the equipment's potential. Both models are equipped with a rear-view camera to give the operator a better view of the environment, and can be fitted with a side-view camera or the Volvo Panoramic Camera System to further enhance situational awareness. The Volvo Panoramic Camera System displays a real-time top view of the equipment on the screen, giving the operator the confidence to operate in confined spaces.

In terms of maintenance, both units have centrally located filters and lubrication points, allowing the user to reach the single-module cooler directly by simply opening the side door. In addition, the radiator, charge air cooler and hydraulic oil cooler are positioned side by side, and protected by non-slip pedals, handrails and guardrails, operators and service technicians can safely and easily service the equipment.

Long-lasting toughness, no worries

The EC500 crawler excavator's increased operating speed and bucket capacity of around 16 per cent have resulted in shorter cycle times and an increase in productivity of around 8 per cent. In addition, the stability of the machine has been further improved thanks to the use of heavy counterweights and large booms, as well as a 100 mm longer undercarriage.

The EC500 crawler excavator has long maintenance intervals of up to 5.000 hours between hydraulic oil changes and up to 2.500 hours between hydraulic oil filter changes*, allowing for less disruption and longer lasting operation. In addition, the machine is equipped with an oil bath cleaner, oil filter, fuel filter and oil-water separator as standard, so that the engine is always in the best condition to meet challenges.

When carrying out high-intensity operation, the electronically controlled hydraulic drive cooling fan will automatically start to cool down the important parts, ensuring the lasting and stable performance output. And when the equipment operating load is reduced, the fan will be automatically switched off to reduce noise and fuel consumption. It is worth mentioning that the fan of EC500 crawler excavator has a reverse function, which can blow air in the opposite direction to achieve self-cleaning.

With the newly upgraded Telematics service - Volvo Construction Equipment's new generation of in-vehicle communication hardware, PSR, and the Volvo+ Intelligent Cloud platform - users can track the running status of the entire machine in real time, manage geographic and time fencing, get reports on equipment utilisation, and learn about operator efficiency, thus optimising fleet configuration and clarifying training needs. In addition, users can also check the working condition of the equipment in real time, obtain maintenance and alarm information through the V+ Intelligent Cloud Platform and Volvo Construction Equipment APP, so as to properly arrange maintenance and avoid unplanned downtime.
