Molex, a global electronics leader and connectivity innovator, today announced that its Squba sealed wire-to-wire connectors have received the coveted IP68 protection rating, which meets stringent international standards for protection against water, dust, dirt, sand and other contaminants. In achieving this milestone, Molex has responded to the growing demand for compact connectors that are ideal for use in a wide range of consumer devices, commercial vehicles, industrial automation, the connected home and other space-constrained applications where devices must be protected from harsh environmental conditions.
Today, as devices continue to shrink in size and increase in functionality, product designers must balance the need for greater reliability with the need for less space for electronic components,’ said Ken Stead, director of power products for Molex's Power & Signal business unit. Our compact IP68 rated Squba connector is the industry's smallest and most durable connector for optimising power lines. This connector provides product developers with the greatest peace of mind and offers them unprecedented design freedom and flexibility.’
Ensuring Reliable Power Delivery for a Variety of Applications
Molex Squba connectors have been certified to the IP68 protection rating as specified by the International Electrotechnical Commission. This certification indicates that Squba connectors are thoroughly resistant to dust, dirt and sand, as well as the effects of water for up to 30 minutes after being submerged in 1.5 metres (nearly 5 feet) of deep water.
The Molex Squba 1.80 mm pitch connector is rated at 6.0 amps, which allows for more power to be transmitted through smaller gauge wire, further saving space and reducing costs. The connector's narrow pitch further alleviates space constraints, and Molex's simultaneous availability in 2- to 10-way configurations and support for high operating temperatures provide additional options for product design efforts.
Equally important, Molex Squba connectors are constructed of rubber-moulded plastic with a durable cover to protect the seals from damage during transport, handling, assembly and use. These smaller and more robust connectors are optimised to provide reliable performance in a wide range of applications and in wet and dusty environments. In these environments, connector size, robustness and quality are critical.
History of top quality connectors
As a prime example, a world-class manufacturer of marine motors uses Molex Squba connectors to power engines both inside and outside of boats, and Molex high-performance connectors are also used in a wide range of consumer and commercial products, including sensors, lighting, liquid dispensers, household appliances, RVs, buses, food processing equipment, robotics, and more.
Molex plans to add panel mounting options to Squba connectors later this year to minimise the vibration that can occur in applications.Molex's Squba innovation and excellence in power connectivity is reinforced by an extensive range of products, which also includes the Fit series of power connectors and the Coeur CST high-current connector range.
2022 Winter Olympics: a winning strategy for connectors
The opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing on 4 February highlighted the fact that athletes are not the only ones facing harsh environmental conditions. Simply supporting the large electrical components of the Winter Olympics is a daunting task, especially when it comes to powering outdoor lighting, scoreboards, transport vehicles, sensors, snow equipment and many other types of gear. Nearly 20 years ago at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Molex demonstrated the power of its uninterrupted connectivity to the Olympic experience as a supplier of cable infrastructure for high-speed communication networks.
With its newest line of Squba IP68 rated connectors, Molex is providing customers around the world with an innovative winning formula, while striving to make power connectors smaller and more robust.
Molex Power and Signal Expertise
Molex's proven portfolio of innovative connector products and solutions includes a wide range of form factors capable of delivering up to 350.0 amps of rated current per circuit to meet the upgraded needs of applications in a wide range of industries, including consumer products, automotive, commercial vehicles, and industrial automation equipment, etc. Molex can modify or customise the wide variety of power connectors available to accommodate virtually any application requirement or environmental requirement.
