K- and L-coding in power supply applications

In industrial automation, the transmission of high currents via M12 connectors has become a fundamental requirement. 5-pole K-coded connectors are particularly suitable for alternating current (AC) transmission, e.g. for drives and frequency converters that require 630 V (AC) and 12 A. 5-pole L-coded connectors are suitable for direct current (DC) small drives, decentralized I/O modules, and a wide range of other direct current (DC) powered automation that are connected to a fieldbus system. Background on UL 2237

The electromechanical interfaces of control cabinets used in the North American market need to be certified according to UL 2237 and UL 2238. which specifies cable assemblies and connectors for signal transmission, and UL 2237. which has additional requirements for power transmission, such as power supply for drives.
