(ADI) announced the first high-resolution, industrial-quality, indirect time-of-flight (iToF) module for 3D depth-of-field measurement and vision systems. The new ADTF3175 module enables cameras and sensors to perceive 3D space at one-megapixel resolution, providing iToF technology with an accuracy of up to +/-3mm for machine vision applications such as industrial automation, logistics, healthcare and augmented reality.
The ADTF3175 provides designers with a scalable, thoughtfully designed and calibrated depth-of-field system that can be integrated into 3D inspection and vision systems without the need to design specialized optics or address electro-mechanical integration challenges, thereby accelerating time-to-market by simplifying the complex sensor design process. Designed to operate in a variety of environmental settings, this reliable and rugged high-resolution module utilizes Lumentum Operations LLC's advanced triple-junction vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) technology and is capable of inspection in a wide range of illumination conditions.Lumentum Operations LLC, a leading provider of Light Detection and Ranging ( LiDAR) and 3D inspection applications.
We are pleased to partner with ADI to provide solutions for the industry's demanding, high-resolution 3D inspection applications, ranging from extended reality to industrial applications such as robotics, smart buildings and logistics systems,” said Téa Williams, senior vice president and general manager of 3D inspection at Lumentum. Our 10W VCSEL arrays help ADI realize more powerful inspection and vision systems that can operate in all types of lighting conditions, eliminating environmental barriers and enabling broader and faster machine vision deployments.”
The ADTF3175 features an infrared illumination source with optics, laser diode and driver, and a receiver path with lens and optical bandpass filter. The module also contains flash memory for calibration and firmware storage, as well as a power regulator for generating a local supply voltage. The module is pre-programmed with multiple modes of operation, optimized for both long and short ranges.
Machine vision needs to make the leap to being able to sense smaller, more subtle objects faster in industrial environments that are often fraught with harsh conditions and multiple distractions,” said Tony Zarola, senior director of ToF at ADI. ‘The ADTF3175’s outstanding resolution and accuracy enables vision and inspection systems, including industrial robots, to better understand the space they are in, and ultimately increase productivity by taking on tasks that require higher accuracy. The introduction of this module helps fill a large gap and accelerate the deployment of next-generation automation solutions and critical logistics systems.”
The ADTF3175 module will come with an open-source reference design for implementing the entire system, all necessary drivers, and accessible ADI Complex Depth of Field Processing functionality.ADI is also providing guidance on how to obtain Class 1 human eye safety certification for the final product.
