To meet the rising digital demands of the mining industry, global technology leader ABB has relaunched a new version of its ABB Ability hoist performance optimisation solution. The upgrade further enhances the service's predictive analytics capabilities, enabling a condition-based maintenance model to improve performance optimisation.
In addition to the benefits of previous versions, ABB Ability Hoist Performance Optimisation 3.1 provides actionable information on key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify any equipment anomalies ahead of time during operation, thereby increasing the uptime of mine hoists and improving availability, performance and productivity. The ABB AbilityTM Edgenius dashboard application enables the ABB Ability Hoist Performance Optimisation solution to quickly analyse and provide insight into the operational status of each mine.
The new version of the ABB AbilityTM Performance Optimisation solution has added a number of new KPI settings based on customer and ABB expert input.
The new version updates the KPI settings in line with customer and ABB expert feedback, adding a number of new parameters such as maintenance hoist availability, hoist cycle statistics, EMS statistics, number of brake caliper spring actions, accumulator precharge pressure, deceleration variation, guide rope tension, creep distance and clutch time. In addition, cyber security assessment features and solutions are included to protect customer data.
Predictive analyses of the status of mine hoists prevent time-consuming and costly unplanned downtime during operations. The system automatically collects, classifies and manages data, which is then monitored and analysed for safety to generate actionable insights that help improve performance, identify safety hazards and optimise maintenance schedules. The data can be analysed by ABB specialists to identify potential problems in advance and intervene as needed, significantly improving equipment availability and the overall safety of mining operations.
Predictive analysis of the condition of mine hoists avoids time-consuming and costly unplanned downtime.
‘ABB Ability Hoist Performance Optimisation is a key solution and service that harnesses the full potential of digitisation to ensure optimum health, safety, productivity and remote operation of mine hoists. The latest service helps mine hoist customers bridge the gap between information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) in a secure and worry-free network. This improved offering adds more KPI settings to provide deeper insight and comes with automatic email notifications to speed up fault detection responses,’ said Bengt Hedlund, Global Service Manager for ABB's Hoisting business. ’As the industry as a whole increasingly seeks to operate in a more sustainable environment, digital services such as ABB's Ability Hoist Performance Optimisation solution, which supports remote operations, can also play an important role in reducing energy consumption and reducing carbon emissions. digital services, can also play an important role in saving energy and reducing the need for in-home maintenance.’
The ABB Mining Engineering team has more than 130 years of experience in servicing the safety, optimisation and retrofitting of hoisting solutions, with more than 1.000 installations worldwide. By digitally interconnecting with ABB Ability performance optimisation solutions, ABB hoist solutions maximise equipment availability and productivity.
