The IRB 1200 is one of the latest generation of 6-axis industrial robots from ABB Robotics with a payload of 5 to 7kg.
It is designed for manufacturing industries that use robot-based flexible automation, such as the 3C industry.
The robot's open architecture makes it particularly suitable for flexible use and allows extensive communication with external systems.
IRB 1200 Type A
Type A - Axis Calibration
The difference between the IRB 1200 and the IRB 1200 Type A is that the Type A uses axis calibration. Each axis has a bushing on which the calibration tool is mounted.
Therefore, the castings of the IRB 1200 and IRB 1200 A models are different.
How do I know the type of robot?
The type label on the robot base indicates whether the robot is axis calibrated or not.
These robots are named IRB 1200 A models.
Robots that are not axis calibrated are simply named IRB 1200 (no type indicated).
IRB 1200 Type B
Type B - SafeMove 2
The IRB 1200 Type B differs from the other IRB 1200 versions in that
Type B supports SafeMove 2.
Therefore, the following components differ from the other versions:
- Base
1.1.1 Construction
Continued
- Drive unit, shaft 2. shaft 3. shaft 5 and shaft 6
- Motor with pulley, shaft 4 and shaft 5
- Robot cable harness
- Battery pack
- SMB unit (replaces EIB unit)
The IRB 1200 B model is based on the IRB 1200 A model and therefore the B model has a bushing for mounting the calibration tool.
Therefore, Type B also has a bushing for mounting the calibration tool.
How do I know the type of robot?
The type label on the robot base indicates whether the robot supports SafeMove 2.
These robots are designated as IRB 1200 Type B.
The particulate emissions of the robot comply with the DIN EN ISO 14644-1 standard for clean room class 3.
Clean room robots are designed to work in a clean room environment.
The robot IRB 1200 is suitable for clean room environments according to IPA test results.
Clean room robots are designed to prevent the robot from emitting particles. For example, frequent maintenance work can be carried out without damaging the paintwork.
The robot is coated with four layers of polyurethane paint. The final layer is a clear coat of paint applied to the tags to simplify cleaning.
The paint has been tested for volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and is classified according to ISO 14644-8.
IP67/66 rating
The robot is available with an optional IP67 rating. Options will add seals, machined parts, and gaskets.
Foundry Plus 2 Protection Type
Robots with the Foundry Plus 2 option are designed for harsh environments where the robot is exposed to coolants,
lubricants, and metal sprays typically used in die casting applications or other similar applications.
Typical applications include jet insertion and part removal in die casting machines, handling in sand casting and gravity casting, and more.
(see Foundry Prime Robotics for cleaning applications or other similar applications).
In foundry applications and other applications, special attention must be paid to operation and maintenance requirements.
Please contact ABB Robotics Sales if you have questions about the feasibility of specific applications for the Foundry Plus 2 protected robot.
The robot is primed with a two-component epoxy resin for corrosion protection.
To further enhance the corrosion protection, additional rust inhibitors are applied to exposed critical areas.
For example, a special anti-rust coating is applied to the tool flange. Nevertheless, continuous splashing of water or other similar rusting liquids may cause rust to adhere to unpainted areas of the robot,
seams or other unprotected surfaces. In such cases, it is recommended that a rust inhibitor be added to the fluid or that other measures be taken to prevent rust from forming in such areas.
The entire robot, from base to wrist, is IP67 compliant according to IEC 60529. which means that the electrical compartment is hermetically sealed against water and solid contaminants.
All sensitive parts are better protected than with standard products.
Selected Foundry Plus 2 features:
- Improved sealing against ingress into the cavity to ensure IP67 compliance
- Additional protection for cables and electronic components
- Special cover plate to protect the cavity
- Proven connectors
- Black chrome-plated tool flange
- Anti-corrosion treatment of screws, washers and unpainted/finished surfaces
- Extended service and maintenance programme
The Foundry Plus 2 robot can be cleaned using appropriate cleaning equipment according to the robot product manual.
Proper cleaning and maintenance is required to maintain protection, e.g., whether the wrong cleaning method washes away the rust inhibitor.
